NORTHPOINT EKEROLD HONDA CLINCH PODIUM IN DRAMATIC RACE

Northpoint Ekerold Honda's Leon Camier clinched his third podium of the season during the dramatic British Supersport race for round 10 of the championship at Croft circuit today (13th August), while teammate Cal Crutchlow crashed out of contention in the treacherous weather conditions.

Both Camier and Crutchlow lined up on the front row and got excellent starts when a crash at the first corner saw a selection of riders fall. The safety car was deployed for two laps until the race was red-flagged due to rainfall.

The re-start saw the Northpoint Ekerold duo fire from the line to complete lap one in second and third. Crutchlow, who currently leads the championship, unfortunately crashed out of the race on lap 7 when he lost the front at the hairpin; while Camier sat in a comfortable fourth position as conditions deteriorated.

The defending champion was promoted to third on lap 13 due to Eugene Laverty crashing out, and carefully guided his Pirelli-shod Honda CBR600RR home to take his third rostrum of the year, promoting him to fourth in the championship. The 20-year-old from Ashford is pleased with his result, particularly as the riders had no wet practice over the course of the weekend.

Crutchlow is disappointed not to have completed the race as he was looking for solid results to extend his points lead further. The 20-year-old Coventry-man still heads the championship by an enviable 60 points and is looking forward to Cadwell park in two weeks time.

Cal Crutchlow: “Today has been unfortunate for us. It was very wet out there and we had no wet practice prior to the race. I lost the front and was unable to re-start. I still lead the championship by a fair way and I hope to build on this at Cadwell.”

Leon Camier: “Things have gone well today. It was like an ice-rink out there by the final lap but I got a good start and everything went well. The team have done a great job and I'm pleased with our result.”

Team Principle Gary Ekerold: “Good result for Leon to finish on the podium and move up to fourth in the championship. We're disappointed Cal crashed but with a 60 point lead we're looking forward to Cadwell, so we can continue working towards clinching our first British Supersport championship.”
