NORTHPOINT EKEROLD HONDA PAIR STORM TO SOLID RESULTS AT WET CADWELL PARK

Northpoint Ekerold Honda's Cal Crutchlow spectacularly took his ninth podium of the season finishing in third position, while team-mate Leon Camier crossed the line in fourth after an exciting wet race at Cadwell park today, (28th August) for round eleven of the British Supersport championship.

Crutchlow started the 15-lap race conservatively in the treacherous conditions at the Lincolnshire circuit; completing lap one in ninth position. The determined rider settled into a good racing rhythm and stormed through the field to impressively catch team-mate Camier, taking third on lap 12. The gritty 20-year-old continued on the chase, lapping a second-a-lap quicker than second place man, Tom Sykes throughout the remaining laps aboard his Pirelli-shod Honda CBR600RR. The Coventry-man was unable to make a pass on Sykes due to backmarkers but completes the race to sustain an enviable championship lead by 54 points.

Camier is happy with his solid result today. The 20-year-old fired from the line to third position and battled with fellow Honda rider, Joe Dickinson, for the opening laps of the race until being caught and passed by Crutchlow. The dicing Northpoint Ekerold duo stayed with each-other for the closing laps when Camier was held up by backmarkers and left with no option other than to settle for a credible fourth place finish. The Ashford-based rider is looking forward to Silverstone in three weeks time.

Cal Crutchlow: “Today's mission is complete. We came here aiming to keep a healthy lead on the championship and although I didn't get the best start, I wanted to get on the podium and we managed to do that. I felt capable of taking second but was held up by backmarkers in the final few laps. The bike and tyres worked very well considering the track had a significant dry line and we ran on full wets. I am really looking forward to Silverstone.”

Leon Camier: “I've found today really useful and I am very happy with our result. After Cal came past I stayed with him and learned just how hard you can push the Pirelli wets on a drying track. I am confident I could've taken that third position but was unfortunately held up in traffic, the team have worked hard and this is very positive for us.”

Race manager Simon Buckmaster: “This is a great result for the team regarding the championship. We have the chance to wrap it up now at Silverstone with Cal. Leon rode a good race today especially as it was his first race on wet Pirelli's on a drying track. Everything has worked well this weekend and we are all looking forward to Silverstone.”
