PLAN ON TRACK

Northpoint Ekerold Honda completed their mission today, and another step in their long term strategy by securing the 2006 British Supersport title today (17th September 2006) at Silverstone circuit; Cal Crutchlow demonstrated his season long dominance of the series with a fantastic race win which clinched the championship with two rounds to spare.

The eventful race, which saw both riders get strong starts, began with a battle between Leon Camier and fellow Honda rider Eugene Laverty throughout the opening stages.

Crutchlow, who completed lap one in fourth, set about chasing Suzuki rider Tom Sykes, and made a pass on lap five. He remained in third aboard his Pirelli-shod Honda CBR600RR until Laverty crashed on lap eight, promoting him to second position which would've ensured taking the title today. However, the gritty rider was not satisfied and continued on a charge to catch team-mate Camier who sat comfortably in the lead around the 2.213 mile circuit

Camier dominated the race until disaster struck on lap fifteen when he lost the front in a high speed crash at Bridge. The disheartened 20-year-old from Ashford sustained some injuries to his ankle but will be competing in the final round at Brands Hatch in two weeks time.

Crutchlow won the race to clinch the title in superb fashion after his third season in Supersport and heads to the final round as the newly crowned 2006 British Supersport Champion.

Cal Crutchlow: “Job Done. Our aim was to wrap up the championship this weekend, I am so happy. I'd like to thank the team, my crew chief Pete Jennings and mechanics Paul Morton and Ben Fry, along with all of our sponsors and supporters. It's been a fantastic season for us and I am very pleased to have taken the title.”

Leon Camier: “I am pleased for Cal but very disappointed for myself. Everything was going so well and I was looking to take the win. Unfortunately I lost the front on a very fast part of the circuit and there was nothing I could do. I'm more determined than ever to end the season on a high. Roll on Brands.”

Team Principle Gary Ekerold: “This is a fantastic result for Cal and the team. It's hopefully the first step in a long-term plan which will culminate in us competing at the highest level. Thanks obviously goes out to all of our sponsors and hopefully now we can look forward to planning stuff for next year.”
