1st and 2nd for Northpoint Ekerold Honda at Mallory Park

Northpoint Ekerold Honda spectacularly completed round 6 of the British Supersport Championship at Mallory Park on 4 June in the top two positions. The 28 lap stint had an array of battles which saw Cal Crutchlow gain his second win of the season and Leon Camier take his first podium for the team in second place.

Both Leon and Cal both got off to excellent starts completing the first lap in third and fourth place. On lap three Cal overtook his teammate and embarked on a battle with Suzuki rider, Tom Sykes impressively taking second position with a pass on lap five. The 20 year old gained a new lap record of 57.409 seconds on lap eight as he hunted down race leader Eugene Laverty. The pair fought hard throughout but Cal took the lead at the hairpin on lap 19 and rode a defensive line to the penultimate lap when both riders were caught up in backmarkers which saw Laverty crash. Cal went on to take the chequered flag with yet another rostrum and continues with his one hundred percent podium finishes so far this season. He now re-takes the championship lead with a 24 point advantage.

Leon's excellent finish was certainly well deserved. On the revised circuit where passing has become more difficult and despite having good pace, Leon lost a lot of time on the leaders trying to get past Tom Sykes for over half the race. His clear thinking and patience paid off however with an impressive pass at Charlie's, the new chicane, on lap 14 to move up to third position.

The 19 year old from Ashford set about chasing down the race leaders' and with Laverty's misfortune crossed the line to take a strong second position. With this boost to his confidence he is determined to build on such form at the next race in his quest to defend his title.

Cal said; “I really enjoyed the race today. It was great to be back out on track after Mondello and also good to be back at the top of the championship. The team have worked really hard and it shows. Hopefully I can extend my lead in the Championship at Snetterton.”

Leon said; “I'm really pleased with today's result. We've been developing things relentlessly since the start of the season and it's great to be able to put it on the podium. Everything is going well now and I hope this is just a show of what is to come.”

Race Manager Simon Buckmaster said; “This is a fantastic result for us. We can't do better than first and second. It was unfortunate for Eugene Laverty but then we've had our fair share of bad luck with traffic in recent races too. There is still a long way to go but it creates great momentum in our bid for the Championship and I'm really pleased for both riders. The package that we have from Honda and Pirelli and our other sponsors is second to none as we have proven here.”
