Northpoint Ekerold Honda takes double glory

Round 9 – Oulton Park – 23rd July 2006 – Race Report

Oulton Park provided a spectacle of racing today (23rd July) which saw both Northpoint Ekerold Honda riders storm to victory in first and third positions. Cal Crutchlow continued with his winning form taking his fourth win of the season and Leon Camier finished in third for his second podium of the year.

Crutchlow impressively extended his championship lead to 69 points with a determined ride aboard his Honda CBR600RR at the picturesque Cheshire circuit. The 20-year-old got a great start from his pole position and completed lap one in second, closely behind Suzuki rider Tom Sykes. He then aggressively chased Sykes and after a short battle took the lead with a superb pass at Hizzy's on lap six. The Coventry-man took the fastest lap of the race on lap nine and brought the Pirelli backed bike to victory continuing with his one-hundred-percent podium finishes so far this season.

Camier got an excellent start from the front row to take third position on the first lap. He ran with both Crutchlow and Sykes with consistently quick lap times and looked sure to move up to second position. The 19-year-old pushed Sykes throughout the beginning of the race but eventually dropped back to finish the race in a strong third position – the team's second double podium of the year.

Cal Crutchlow said: “I really enjoyed the race today. I wanted another win to extend the championship lead and we've managed to achieve that. The package we've got is working and the team have worked hard to get where we are. I am confident we can continue with this form and I can keep rewarding the team with victories.”

Leon Camier said: “Today has gone reasonably well. I felt to begin with I could've taken second but struggled a bit towards the middle of the race and decided to settle for third instead of doing anything stupid. We are continuing development on our setup and we can only get stronger and stronger.”

Race Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “This is a great success for the team. Cal is riding consistently well and has extended his championship lead further which was our main aim today. Leon had a good race and we are continuing work with the machine and Pirelli to improve his setup further. We're very much looking forward to mounting a challenge for podium finishes with our wild-card entries at Brands Hatch World Supersport in two weeks time.”
Northpoint Ekerold Honda's next outing is at the World Supersport round at Brands Hatch on the 6th of August.
