NORTHPOINT EKEROLD HONDA CHALLENGE WORLD'S BEST

Northpoint Ekerold Honda challenged the world's top Supersport riders with their wild card entry for the Brands Hatch round of the World Supersport Championship; finishing superbly in fifth and tenth positions.

Both Cal Crutchlow and Leon Camier stormed away from the start line aboard their Honda CBR600RR's, completing lap one in fifth and third positions before going on to claim excellent results at the Kent circuit.

The current British Supersport Championship leader, Crutchlow, spent much of the race battling Robbin Harms to the closing stages when the dicing duo caught current World Champion, Sebastian Charpentier, on the final lap. The gritty 20-year-old from Coventry made an attack and passed Charpentier to finish the race in a very credible fifth position.

Camier is pleased with his tenth place finish. The 20-year-old from Ashford darted from the start to the first corner in third place before coming under attack from the likes of Kenan Sofuoglu. By lap seven reigning British Supersport champion had dropped back to tenth until the closing stages of the race when he exchanged places with the likes of Yoann Tiberio and Gianluca Nanneli. Camier is pleased with his World Supersport debut and is looking forward to taking what he's learnt back to the British Supersport Championship at Croft next weekend.

Cal Crutchlow: “Top five is brilliant for us. I am a little disappointed as I felt we were capable of a podium if not a win and I made a little mistake in the beginning which cost me a few places. I fought hard and the standard of riders here really shows. The team has worked very hard and this is a very positive result for us.”

Leon Camier: “I am very happy with what we have achieved this weekend. Tenth is really good for first time on the world stage, these guys are very experienced but it's been great. I've learnt a lot and I'd like to thank the team for all their hard work and support.”

Team Principle Gary Ekerold: “Today has been a fantastic day for the team. Two solid results have ensured that Cal, Leon and the entire team have demonstrated that they have what it takes to compete at the highest level. It's also great for our sponsors Honda, Nokia, Jewson, Northpoint, A&A Lamb and Shell that we can give them exposure at this level.”
