From our perspective the story starts back in 1980 when Jon Ekerold (Snr) became only the man ever to win the 350cc motorcycling world championship as a privateer. The story is one of determination, sacrifice, courage and skill as one man struggled to reach the pinnacle of his sport. It was a dream that appeared unobtainable without a factory ride but despite the setbacks Jon eventually triumphed and sealed his place in the record books. Gary Ekerold, Jon’s eldest son was a mere 10 years old when he saw his Dad crowned World Champion, an event as one would expect that would have a lasting impact on the youngster. When it transpired that Gary’s physique was more suited to a place in the South African Springbok Rugby team than riding a motorbike, his hopes on emulating Jon’s World Championship were not entirely dashed. His thoughts moved to team management and the task of developing a team and riders into World Championship challengers. The Power of Dreams Honda have a marketing slogan titled the Power of Dreams. It goes "Making impossible dreams happen. It's something that Honda does every day. Because if you aim for impossible, then you might just do something that's never been done before." As it happens Gary was working at Honda UK and discovered that it not just a marketing slogan but a management philosophy. Through a series of events and twists of fate in 2002 Gary ended up running his own Supersport bike racing team and ever since has been supported in some way by the Honda Dream Factory. At we start the 2006 season the whole team is fully committed to taking the next step towards the Ekerold dream by winning the British Supersport Championship in convincing style. We have the riders, the team, the support and the passion to get the job done and we hope that you will join us and enjoy writing the next chapter of the story! |
